What happens to victims after they’re saved?

Even though people are took out of sex trafficking, they have gone through so much trauma which stays with them for the rest of their lives. Lots of victims suffer from PTSD, depressions, anxiety, Stockholm Syndrome, STDs and many more.

Individuals may have flashbacks of traumatic events, nightmares, and debilitating anxiety when thinking about the events. This can cause isolation problems for the victim since they are struggling with personal feelings of shame or guilt.

Victims can also develop an emotional bond or feel safe in the relationship with the traffickers. When trauma bonding occurs, it becomes more difficult for victims to leave since.

If STDs aren’t treated quick enough they will cause long term complications such as infertility or sexual dysfunction. “There is also a higher risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases, infections, diabetes, cancer, and other illnesses. Victims of forced labor may work in dangerous conditions for long hours doing repetitive tasks. They may also be exposed to dangerous contaminants or work with heavy equipment. As a result, many are subjected to serious infections, respiratory problems, injuries, impairments, and exhaustion.

All of these problems can result in suicide which is the worst of them all. Going into trafficking someone might feel their life is ruined but when they escape their life is still pretty much ruined. There is a great possibility that they will fight through their pain but why not prevent it before it can happen.

This is a great guide to become aware of the severe situation of human trafficking and to help the community overcome this problem.

Thorn is an immensely helpful organization that fights against human trafficking. However, I find it helpful to let my readers know what really is the damaging effect of human trafficking in the first place.

A growing body of research shows that survivors of extreme exploitation often suffer severe and enduring health consequences [4–7]. Trafficking is associated with physical injuries including fractures, lacerations and lost limbs [5,8], chronic pain and headaches, significant weight loss [7,9], and symptoms of infectious and chronic diseases [8]. Sexual and reproductive health problems are common among women who are sexually exploited and abused while trafficked [4,9]. For trafficking survivors, persistent health problems include mental health consequences, especially symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety, and suicidality
•To begin the second generation of research and evaluation of what works to reduce exploitation, we need to move beyond focusing solely on individual behaviors to incorporate questions about how larger forces contribute to or prevent extreme exploitation.

Researchers urgently need to address intervention-focused questions about modifiable factors in the causal pathways to human trafficking in different contexts and for different populations [2]. Therefore, serious consideration must be given to the structures and practices that enable exploitation and leave individuals with extremely limited ability to alter their circumstances [16].

So much of our money is dedicated towards fixing the trafficking situation in Texas, when we should rather spend it towards preventing trafficking since starting from the root of the problem allows it to die down. The issue is very prevalent in countries like America, let alone third world countries that do not have as many privileges as America.

With all your help and donations, we will defeat the traffickers and hope one day that we become a traffickless society.

I think it is super important to make sure parents talk to their children about human trafficking.

If kids are aware of “stranger danger” they would know it is wrong to trust to people they don’t know. Talk to your kids about how to get away from difficult situations like these. Make sure they understand, they should trust no adult they don’t know even if they promise something in return to going with them.
